Winter Programming 2024 Masters Competitive


Overview: The Wascana Racing Canoe Club offers winter training programs for Masters who are looking to take the next step in their sprint canoe/kayak journey. Our winter programs are designed to help athletes develop specific strength and fitness elements that contribute to on water success in our sport. Winter training is extremely important for athlete development, and is a great way to stay strong, fit, and healthy in a fun and knowledgeable environment.

 

Training Approach: Training sessions will utilize a well-rounded approach to achieve these goals, incorporating various activities such as cross country skiing, ERG training, and functional and dynamic strength training. 

 

Importance of Winter Training: Winter training is a crucial component of long-term success in our sport. It provides athletes with the opportunity to:

  1. Build a Solid Foundation: Lay the groundwork for future success by strengthening essential skills and attributes.
  2. Maintain Fitness: Keep up with physical conditioning and avoid setbacks when transitioning back into competitive seasons.
  3. Have Fun and Learn: Enjoy the training process in a supportive and knowledgeable environment that fosters growth and camaraderie


Program Details

Session #1: $225 (December 10, 2024 - April 8, 2025; no session December 24 and December 31)

Tuesdays:  6:30pm - 7:30pm  Coached session on ergs in Boat Bay 1. 7:30pm - 8:00pm: Volunteer-led weights session in CGR.

Thursdays: 7:30pm - 8:30pm Weights training in Canada Games Room (volunteer-led).

 

Session #2: $250 (November 15, 2024 to April 4, 2025; no sessions December 27)

Thursdays: 7:30pm - 8:30pm Weights training in Canada Games Room (volunteer-led).

Fridays:  6:30pm - 7:30pm  Coached session on ergs in Boat Bay 1. 7:30pm - 8:00pm: Volunteer-led weights session in CGR

 

Sessions #1 + #2: $350 (November 15, 2024 - April 4, 2025; no sessions Dec. 24, 27, or 31)

Tuesdays: Run from December 10 - April 8 

Thursdays: Run from November 15 - April 4

Fridays: Run from November 15 - April 4

 

**Participants must be aware that if they choose Session 1 or Session 2 that they will not be able to attend the other erg session. I.e. if you are registered in Session 1 and miss the Tuesday erg session, you will not be able to attend the following Friday erg session as a make-up. 

Program Goals:

  1. Functional Strength: Develop functional strength to improve athletic performance, training capacity, and injury prevention.
  2. Fitness Enhancement: Enhance overall fitness levels, including endurance and speed, which are major components to excel in our sport.
  3. Performance Development: Optimize performance through tailored training sessions and targeted exercises.

 

Participants are also invited to Cross Country Ski with the rest of the WRCC group when the Wascana Lake trails are ready. There are also two Cross Country Ski trips (price not included in registration fees) planned for the 2024/2025 season where Masters are invited to as well.
