A C1 is a one-person canoe. The 'C' stands for CANADIAN. This is our sport!

Returning Paddlers

Who is a Returning Paddler? Anyone who has paddled a previous season or has completed Learn to Paddle Camp.

If new to the sport, register in one of our Learn To Paddle courses where all the basics are taught. Once complete you are ready to join one of the seasonal or full-year options below.

Sport promotes growth as athletes, teammates and citizens. Wascana Racing Canoe Club promotes a positive, supportive and challenging environment. We strive for a reasonable amount of challenge and the maximum amount of smiles.

AGE CLASSIFICATION CHANGE FOR 2019: Canoe Kayak Canada competition age groupings have changed and now are 2 year age groupings. Competition classifications are U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, Junior, Senior and Masters (no change to Senior and Masters)

Coaches have the flexibility to move athletes into the most appropriate social and performance groups. The individual developmental and the team needs are considered in all cases. If there are questions please consult your coach.

Note: Paddlers will not be on the water in extreme weather conditions. However,  we have a rainy-day plan so rain or shine the show goes on.

Participants must have a minimum swim competency. If asked to demonstrate swim ability the paddlers must be able to tread water for 1.5 minutes, stay afloat for 5 minutes without assistance, swim 75 metres (any stroke, any speed) without a lifejacket or other flotation device. We can not stress enough the risk of putting non-swimmers on the water, it not only presents a risk to the participant but for staff and other participants as well. If you are unsure of the ability to meet the minimum swim ability we encourage you to visit a local pool were there is a lifeguard present and try it out.
* All U14 participants must wear life jackets or PFDs any time they are on the water
